Xenocide Uprising

Succumb

Giving everything when everything is not enough is how you concede. The rules say so in as many words, and the game has always accepted it, guarded on your whole hand so it can never become a way to underpay while still holding cards.

The board forbade it. The Commit button was disabled until your selection covered the Manifestation, and that can never happen for a hand worth less than the Manifestation. A seat holding a three and a two against six Ruin found that five is not six, the button never woke up, and the descent could not end.

Enabling it was not enough either. It still left you picking cards toward a number you cannot reach, which is a puzzle with one answer and no way to know it. So the board says what is true: what it asks, what you hold, how far short you are, and every card with its worth. Then it offers one action.

Succumb is Endure’s opposite. There was already a word for taking the Manifestation and standing; this is taking it and falling.

Two other things the same descent found

Enduring asked nothing at all. It commits no card against the entity, so the Strike stands at its full value. The play most likely to be unpayable was the one that went straight through, with the shortfall stated in eleven-pixel grey. It asks now.

And the warning that should have caught both was switched off for most tables. It only appeared if you were holding an Echo, which three and four seats never are. It was structurally impossible in exactly the seat counts where it was needed, and every multiplayer descent on record died in the position it exists for.
