Five days ago I added a third arrangement of the board, built around how many people are sitting down rather than around the size of your screen. Playing alone, the table is a single lane with nothing in it, so the solo board removes it and puts the arithmetic there instead.
Then I left it in a menu, which meant a player alone at a table saw the empty lane and had to go looking for the thing built for them.
It is the default now.
The part worth explaining is what happens to your preference, because the obvious version of this is wrong.
The obvious version writes the solo board into your settings the first time you play alone. Then it is your preference. For every game after that, including games with three other people, because you never actually asked for it.
So nothing is written. If you have chosen an arrangement, you keep it, alone or not. If you have never chosen one, the board is worked out from the table in front of you: alone gets the solo board, company gets the standard one. Only the menu writes anything down.
That is the same rule the skins already follow. A screen you merely passed through does not get to overwrite something you picked.
It cannot change under you mid game either. Whether a descent is solo is fixed from the moment it starts, because nobody can join a game already in progress. A later descent with company works itself out again.
Every entry in this Chronicle had a title, in the tab and in the preview when you shared the link, and no title on the page itself. The rule that hid it said “it lives in the spine”, and it did, until I moved the spine over to the category list so you could get back to a filtered view. The rule stayed behind.
Nothing reports a heading that is merely absent.
